*Note: This is a critique of the critic. Probably you expected a different kind of movie. Understandable, that usually will sour one's experience. Documentaries excepted, fantasy & escapism are the stuff of cinema. This movie in particular, is a super hero, comic book adaptation which brings with it, a higher than usual expectation for the audience to adjust accordingly, their believability threshold. The Hollywood "cash-cows," you refer to, actually rely on drawn-out fight, gore or sex scenes, that do little to advance the plot but more or less assures attendance by males age 13-25yrs, which is, I believe is the largest, therefore, most profitable demographic. While I don't begrudge you that, if I want to see fighting I'll turn on the news or go to a match. Robert Downey Jr. is not an actor one would consider for a cash-cow picture. He cannot be bonded for the most part and is particular about the movie roles he plays. Forgive my rant. I felt a need to defend this work because quality, whatever the genre is scarce in modern society. Obtaining Money has become the God and appealing to the lowest common denominator the standard by which it is got. Refreshingly, that was not the case with this movie and it is a glimmer of hope for our future that any work such as this actually became a box-office blockbuster. BTW: Your first sentence is incorrect."The concept, the actors, and the animation was all there." It's "were" all there... plural. English is the language of science, limited in it's descriptive abilities and hopeless for communication when used incorrectly. If you ever wish your comments to be taken seriously you would do well to learn the basics. If it is your second language I apologize for my uncharitable comment.
