Great to read these reviews - I wondered if I was crazy after reading the critic's ratings. This was the second movie I ever walked out of (the first was Duke of Hazzard) I hope the 10/10 folks will do their ordinary friends a favour and at least warn them of the nausea inducing camera work and the tremendous scope of the dullness. And please don't invite me to your wedding.

My aunt went to the premiere of this movie and she LOVED it!!! (well, of course because, you know, she's my AUNT!) Sorry but, I didn't like it and I hope you are not gonna hate it but if you do, too bad for you! Seriously, I prefer SAW 5 BECAUSE IT HAS A LOT OF ACTION! LOL no really this movie (rachel getting married) is not very fun for young peoples but for old old persons! Thanks for reading.

Worst movie I've seen since "Open Water". We wanted to leave half way through it, but stayed only because of Anne Hathaway's performance. It was boring, with annoying characters and long drawn out scenes. Terrible camera work, annoying music. People who give this movie high ratings should have their heads examined.

Great movie - really liked the use of close-ups, and Anne Hathaway is amazing.

A bit of a downer, what with the main character in recovery after having done something pretty depressing. Not much of a story arc as we're not really sure where anyone stands at the end of the piece. If anything, it's a study in disfunction and the potential for family to overcome and forgive. Not so much entertaining as thought provoking. Personally, I found the eclectic mix of people attending the wedding a little hard to swallow. But it could just be that the weddings I've been to were boring. Good performances though. Very open ended.

This is a very good movie - one that not only entertains but encourages thought. I found myself thinking about it a couple of days after seeing it... that says a great deal!

Very bad movie, filming, story, acting... it looks as if it's a high school filming class movie.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] Ever wanted to be a fly-on-the-wall at someone else’s wedding? The voyeurism enabled by wandering hand-held cameras (even within the movie) imparts a cozy sense of intimacy to this portrait of two families uniting to celebrate a wedding. With a script by Jenny Lumet, daughter of director Sidney Lumet, working with Gail Buckley, granddaughter of singer Lena Horne, Jonathan Demme’s cinema verite version of a hippie wedding with Indian garb, Brazilian carnival atmosphere, bluesy vocals and New Orleans instrumentation is very much a search for as well as a riotous celebration of connexions. Anne Hathaway plays the self-absorbed, self-aware, bratty black sheep of the family come back to upstage her sweet, sometimes sulky sister Rachel on the eve of her nuptials. Her determination to impale herself on the cross of atonement and to make amends by letting the cat out of the bag threatens to (but never quite) unsettles the entire proceedings. Is it just a little too much of a coincidence that her sister’s best man turns up at Narcotics Anonymous and can be counted on to help her initiate a wedding tradition of having the best man bed the maid of honour? Or that he remains patient and supportive to the end? This is not so much the dreaded secret that spirals out of control as the tragic error that refuses to be resolved. That irrevocable split is personified by Debra Winger and Bill Irwin, who are superb as the parents who have developed completely opposing coping mechanisms after going their separate ways. If “Rachel Getting Married” is only peripherally about either Rachel or her wedding, it gives us an insight into the messy highs and lows of being family.

I had no idea that Anne's character was an ex-model until I read the review. I liked the concept of this film and I admire Hathaway's attempt to break out of the Princess roles. I thought the older sister was incredible and thought the film tored to capture some original material. The film is intense and raw at times. It was a brave attempt to capture a family in recovery. This film is not for everyone and is hard at times. I do appreciate the honest attempt but the actors and the director.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] Boooring... tried too hard to be a "quirky independent" film - how cute: rachel rides a bicycle and rachel trips over the chair when arriving late... by the end of the movie the sister and the groom were ANNOYING beyond belief and was sooo tired of watching the sister smile endlessly and the "husband to be" do absolutely NOTHING the whole film... way too long... why is everyone so impressed with Anne Hathaway - is playing a recovering drug addict not acting 101?

This movie looked like it was filmed by my 6 year old. None of the characters were fully developed, you learned nothing about them. No one's life situation was illuminated. Anne's acting was great. The other actors could not act to save their lives. This is by far the worst movie I have seen in years.

I thought it was a good movie, once I got past the documentary style filming. Yes, the camera was jerky, but once I got past the jerkiness, I really enjoyed the movie. Anne Hathway did a superb job in this film.

I have always been a fan of actor, director and producer of Jonathan Demme's work (Fighting mad; Handle with care; Philadelphia, etc..) and who also happens to be The late Ted Demme's uncle)! Having such strange and troubled characters in his movies seems to be his trade mark so far, just like the character Kim in this movie (played by Anne Hathaway), for which rehab has almost become a second home for the past ten years! She asks for and obtains a weekend leave in order to attend the wedding of her sister Rachel (Rosemary Dewhite) But everybody on the list of invitees have their hands on their hearts as they know that everywhere Kim goes, trouble follows and that long simmering tensions in the family usually surface in her presence... !! ; Good acting especially by Anne Hathaway (who is getting better and better after each role (loved her in 'The princess diaries', 'The devil wears Prada' and many others! ; Rosemary Dewhite does a great job as well! ; Also starying Mather Zickel as Kieran and Bill Irwin as Paul, 'Rachel getting married' is a rough yet sweet movie about the harsh realities of life and the struggle to be accepted within your family and society in general when you're so different than the norm! ; It's both funny and thought provoking at the same time and I recommend it!

Superb acting by Anne Hathaway! Loved that everything was not spelled out for you rather you had to interpret things through the characters. A fascinating look at family and the subtle complexity of the relationships within them. Great, well written script. This is not a movie for idiots who like to have things laid at their feet.

Really good movie, amazing performance by Anne Hathaway. Definitely not a mainstream movie so I can see why some gave it a low rating. I think those people would have been better off seeing something like Four Christmases or Beverly Hills Chihuahua.

The movie was very bad, I was very disappointed, the camera work looked like it was done by an amateur, the music was annoying, storyline was lousy, didn't go into any great deal explaining much. Anne Hathaway's peformance was about the only thing that was good. I wouldn't even recommend renting, avoid at all costs. !

Rachel Getting Married? Who Cares! This was the worst movie I've seen in a long time. The camera jerked around making me nauseated for the entire film. I nearly lost my dinner on the people in front of me. There were parts that could have been cut out or cut down in time. Some scenes went on awkwardly too long and were extremely boring. Certain characters were terribly developed leaving the viewer wondering if they forgot a scene. I nearly walked out many times. The only redeeming thing about this movie was Anne Hathaway's performance. She did well but it's still not worth watching this film. Watch clips of her performance on Youtube.

Awful movie. Just plain awful. The only reason why I stayed the whole way through is because I wanted to see if Rachel would stop being so mean and judgemental to Kym; she didn't.

Well developed characters who show themselves throughout the movie in a realistic subtle way. Shows characters as flawed people, who you can empathize with, even if not necessary able to identify directly with their situation. All of the main character actors give superb performances.

The camera jerked around constantly making me want to barf constantly. Kym (Anne Hathaway's character) had an awful, judgmental family that seemed to just want to get rid of her. If you want to watch a show about a drug addict with a horrible family that doesn't understand about drugs, watch Intervention. SERIOUSLY. Watch it. The only reason why I didn't give this movie a 0 is, A) Because this website only lets you rate it from 1-10 and, B)This was Anne Hathaway's most amazing acting ever. I've always loved her, but this was FANTASTIC. If you're a fan of her, watch this; because she did an amazing job at showing what a recovering addict is like.

Never before have I given a movie such a bad rating, but I am now! Anne Hathaway did an AMAZING job acting out as a recovering drug addict! So kudos to her! However, this whole movie had absolutely NOTHING interesting. The wedding took forEVER to finish. There was like, 20 full length wedding speeched that took half an hour and the wedding had loud music that went on for 10 minutes straight with nothing happening. None of the characters except Anne Hathaway had any development, especially Rachel's husband, Sydney. What the hell does she see in such a boring guy?!!! This movie SUCKED!!! But Anne Hathaway is sure to get nominated for some awards, and I hope she wins them all.

Anne Hathaway is terrific as Kym, a recovering drug addict who gets out of rehab to attend her sister's wedding. Rosemarie DeWitt (from tv's Mad Men) is also very good as the sister, Rachel, as is Debra Winger as their mother. The film is a co-mingling of joy and pain as Kym's return home sets off long-standing resentments. The wedding rehearsal, as well as the wedding and reception, is amazing in its being the most non-traditional wedding I've seen--totally eclectic, including the music. It was wonderful to watch--not just another cookie-cutter wedding/keeping up with the Jones's excess, but an exuberant down-home wedding. I think the hand-held camera work was meant to give the audience a feeling of participation; the audience becomes another guest at the wedding. The film was quite sad at times, especially Kym's struggle to forgive herself for past sins; her struggle to confront her sister and her mother--but ultimately it was hopeful because of her courage in facing her demons. A very powerful film.

Good acting by Anne Hathaway and that was the only good thing. The jerky camera added nothing but a nausea. It was really like being at a bad wedding - where it went on for days. There was no point to the music, the speeches were bad even the song created by the groom had no melody nor lyrics that made sense. Much like the rest of the movie. Give a pass unless you want to see what it is like to have a self centered drug addict living in your family. Rt and d.

I left the theatre feeling physically ill from the shakey camera to the constant screeching violin. The worst movie I have ever seen. The story line could have been good if a person wasn't constantly assulted by the shakey picture and horrible noise.

I had no idea what this film was about so I did not have any expectations. Anne Hathaway does a great job portraying a recovering addict. But thats about it. I felt like this was a sequel and no one told me about part 1. Felt like we came into everything and nothing was explained. Why was the wedding indian themed? What was with the extensive music enterage? Why the long reception? Why Why Why is all we kept asking! Not recommending to anyone. Sorry.

Great acting and interesting family history. But that jerky camera doesn't give the feel of a documentary, but a home movie. And who besides your close ones really wants to see a home movie? And geez, that music! It's like everybody was practising out of key. Just when I thought it couldn't get any more annoying, out comes a guy blowing into a whistle while dancing wildly to the beat of a drum. Give this one a miss.

Not terrible but could have been much better. Demme forgoes subtlety to hammer home ever possible point to reveal how incredibly dysfunctional this family is. He seems to revel in giving the viewer scenes that give us some hope for the family only to then finish the scene off with some deception or terrible heartbreak everytime. Demme chooses to crank up the melodrama but forgoes genuine character authenticity in the process. It leaves the viewer feeling like a distant observer of a train wreck. Interesting piece though not so entertaining.

Phoney characters, boring boring boring speeches! The setting was so contrived and pretentious with its obnoxious music and one-dimensional cast of U. N. type characters. I wanted to run away from this drawn-out party and I just didn't care about any of the people who were there. The camera work made me sick.

'Disfunction' is given entirely new meaning in this film! Anne Hathaway is outstanding as the self focused recovering addict, Kym... Anne's facial expressions and body language poignantly convey her desperate longing for her mother's affection and her sister's acceptance... as she quietly searches for self forgiveness and to let go of the tragic consequence of a responsibility given her by this same mother. I found the 'jerky' camera work not only distracting but serving no purpose to the movie's message... which I still ponder considering hope was, and will remain elusive... Anne Hathaway's performance notwithstanding, this movie was a 'downer'.

This movie is 30 minutes too long, and the half-hour is as torturous and boring as a real-life distant cousin's wedding: no action, just a feeling of being crammed with a whole bunch of strangers waiting for something to happen, but to no avail. On the plus side, at least we know Anne Hathaway can actually act in a serious role, but that's certainly not enough to justify the agonizing plot and the price of the tickets. If you must see it, wait fo |
