If you have seen the trailer, you have seen the movie. Yes, it's interesting that some nice Arab band members get lost in a tiny outpost in Israel and get introduced to a bit of life in the modern world. The character development of the band leader is the most interesting development but in the end the movie does not end up making a big statement about anything. A pleasant pic.

As I recently just went to Israel and Egypt I found this movie realistically hilarious and familiar. I expected all the real time to be trying, but instead it just increased the familiarity and coziness, making the characters real and understandable and likable, respectable even. I chuckled more than a few times and uttered "damn is Khaled hot!" more than once too.

For something so inconsequential and small, this movie made an impact. There are no stakes, and nothing unknown, and that may be what makes it so interesting.

Just a small snapshot in time, I felt like the Band's Visit was realistic in how much can be learned, revealed, known, in a short space of time. Loved the the lingering camera shots. An indie film buff's must-see!

A humane, funny, carefully observed character study of an Egyptian band in the Israeli outback. With seemingly very little to work with, the movie creates a wholly believable and somehow very endearing cast of characters, without relying on sentimentality or cheap emotional tricks. Almost certainly will be one of the best movies of the year.

Clean, easy, funny, sad, excellent acting, loved the story! You leave the theatre happy, not frustrated, angry or agressive!

Funny, but not to funny, sentimental, but not to sentimental and sweet, but not to sweet. Good acting in general. The closest in theme that comes to mind is 'Lost in Translation'. Worth seeing, but definitely a repertoire movie. A maximum of 7½.

At last a movie that was not so complex that it was impossible to follow, good clean language also.

The Band’s Visit is a cinematic gem. An apolitical film which feels like a wordless cartoon, or a silent movie. This plotless story focuses on a handful of characters, who, despite being part of a small community—an Egyptian police band, residents of a god-forsaken desert town—are disconnected from one another, passengers in a timeless night. Using the barest dialogue, each of the characters is revealed through facial gestures and body language. The veteran Israeli actor, Sasson Gabbai, as the conductor of the Alexandria Police Orchestra in a restrained, exceptional performance, conveys the wounded pride and pain of a general who has failed his men, conceding in the end that he is only human. At the heart of this movie is the human condition; we are all insecure, vulnerable and ultimately responsible for one another. If you like action, suspense and mystery, this film is not for you. The only heroes in this tale are those who can get up each morning and say “Today is another day. ”

A very funny film in a quiet way. No camera trick. No melodrama. And a very quiet film. But the music plays, you hear the music play. And it's music to our ears and our eyes.

This is a beautiful humane film. I give it a 9 because you kind of know where the story is going. But then again, all those block-blusters are essentially recycling the same old same old. What is significant here is how it tells the story of a Middle East that the violence-seeking media ignores. The Arabs and the Jews in the story are just people living, sharing, reconciling and re-negociating their confusion, boredom, pain and joy - in other words their daily lives like everyone else. Having been to the Middle East, I realize there are stories out there that need to be told other than the insanity portrayed by CNN and like news networks. Of course, the Arabs here are Egyptians and not Palestines. But it’s the culture through films, music and arts that would help encourage us to understand that we are really one people... Bravo Eran!!!

My friend and I were eager to see this movie; it has good ratings and good reviews seemed to surround it. The film had a few (very few) moments of humour in the first 20 minutes... that's when it became as interesting as the old adage involving watching paint dry. We have seldom left a movie before the end... we fled the theatre after an hour. As the ING fellow says," Save your money!!" (Choose another film!!!)

Sure wish that I'd gone to see another movie or brought some Sudoku puzzles to do during the slow parts of this film. Obviously given the previous ratings, some people must have loved this film. As for seeing it again, I couldn't even make it all the way through the first time, a real rarity for me. Generally I love foreign films, the slow pace, the glimpses into other cultures, the general ambiance, but not this time. Good luck staying awake during this film.

I can't quite give this a 10, but it certainly is excellent. Highly engaging and very funny. All the actors were top notch. I can't agree that nothing happens in this film. A lot happens, just not in the Hollywood way we've been taught to accept. It's a movie about acceptance. Groups of very different people brought together by music, love, love lost and family. The music is beautiful, the acting outstanding, a few bucks well spent.

For a film whose advertising boasts that nothing important happens in it, The Band's Visit is surprisingly engaging. In the character-driven tale, the talented cast finds the right balance between understated naturalism, nuance, humour and pathos. With the deft blending of comedy and drama, the casual pacing is never dull and the story holds your attention throughout. The use of artfully staged images adds to the film's graceful charm. In the end, The Band's Visit succeeds in conveying the message that seemingly trivial events can be quite meaningful and poignant.
