Good, many characters really well thought and played. Shows real life situations that are not often reflected on, or that are unfairly superficially treated. A good human and social portrait of women in Beirut, but some situations are the same elsewhere. 7 and a half.

Sex in the city - Beirut style with all the East-West hang-ups. A chick flick with nothing we haven't seen before but still a pleasant detour from all the Hollywood junks that float our screens. All the Arabic women are very attractive in the film. Won't mind seeing a bit more of Beirut tho'...

This is a great movie, you have to understand that this is not a hollywood movie. So if you're expecting an unrealistic story just to please you... you're not in the right place. This is a story of real lifes real problems and real joys. It's about love and sacrifice... Nadine Labaki is great as always. It's a must see movie. Bon cinema!!

Excellent movie!! One of the very few if not ONLY Lebanese film actually NOT about the war. Greatly captures small moments that we all experience in our lives... expressed a bit more from a female perspective (story of 4 girls..) but still funny enough to watch... highly recommended!!

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] This movie has a lot of heart - portraying a group of women working in a beauty salon. They all have their own aspirations and disappointments. One has unrequited love for a married man, another is gay (again unrequited).. It also shows that desires and frustrations are much the same across different cultures. That desire would be to have a fulfilling, lasting relationship with another human being. The movie's setting is Beirut, which would seem to be somewhat more conservative than North America and Europe - all a woman needs here to reserve a hotel room is a credit card and internet access (not so sure about the biblical mid-west - but that's another issue) Also another woman undergoes an operation for the sake of her relationship - the details of which I will not go into here. Aside from that, the story is heart-warming and about real people with no grandiose emotional explosions. The musical accompaniment was most appropriate. There is NO Hollywood (Bollywood) wrap around where they all live and love happily ever after. There is a certain melancholia permeating the entire movie.

This movie talks about what women go through emotionally everyday, when they don't lead a typical life. It's the story of women in lack of love due to different circumstances. It's touching, it's funny, it's real. The movie refers to the Almodovar style because of all the women in the movie and the bright colors everywhere but it doesnt affect its quality, on the contrary. If you're looking for an action movie with a beginning, conflict, resolution then an end, don't go. But if you wanna enter the world of real people and what they go through regularly, trying to be happy... run and see it!

Different lives crossover in a hair salon, different religions seem to cohabitate without hitches, different sexual phantasms take life unfettered, in a witty, well rounded comedy a bit "tirée par les cheveux". Nadine Labki is to die for as an actress as well as a Director. Definitely worth your buck.

This movie is one of the best movies I have seen this year. Very realistic, warm and funny! Although there is no clear ending for any of the 5 stories told, and despite the great amount of symbolism used in the story as far as actions, expressions and moves, the film succeeds in translating the reality of everyday's life and bringing it on to the big screen. It gave me the feeling of being a part of the cast, as if I was sitting in that Beauty salon and chatting with these women and sharing their thoughts, fears and laughs. Very simply told! Big Bravo to Nadine Labaki The director as well as The talented actress!

An entertaining movie that thankfully doesn't mention middle-eastern politics. We do, however, get to witness the women's restrictions in their country, such as having to be a virgin before marriage; having to live with one's parents if single; and having to care for one's relative by sacrificing one's own life. Despite these harsh realities, these women find happiness where they can--mostly with each other.

I thought it was great! Not only does it make you laugh and cry, it also shows you that womens' problems are universal, no matter the culture; it is VERY realistic.

Light movie about the life of women in the Middle East depicting the contrast between still living at home with the family and running their own business... and still managing to have affair with a married man! Lots of contrast that makes you rethink the stereotypes!

Touching, humanitarian, artistic and not pretentious. Wonderful execution of the idea. It definitely has its culture value unlike most of the movies. The girl playing the main character was so beautiful and easy on the eyes. It is a must see piece.

Very sweet and touching movie. It is a very optimistic story around women of all ages and backgrounds, their problems, and their relationships with each other, filmed with empathy and tenderness. It will make you think and smile for a while after seeing it.

I do think that this movie is worth seeing. It is humourous and touching. The theme that resonated most with me was the universality of women's issues. It doesn't matter where you live it seems women are concerned with their relationships and aging. Truthfully, I was expecting a bit more, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it.
