Mongol is a beautiful masterpiece. It is one of the best movies since Braveheart.

Excellent scenery! Definitely worth seeing this movie. However, I found it a bit long and would have loved a bit more development in the battle strategies and tactics.

Amazing epic combining romance, drama and blood-geysering battle sequences that paints a broad portrait of the life and times of Genghis Khan. What I loved about this movie is that it doesn't focus at all on Genghis Khan's claim to fame of conquering half the world. Rather, it spells out the upbringing and starting steps of him as he grows up and turns into the world's most famous Khan. Reading history books alone, it is difficult to see him as just a little boy but this movie delivers those images in spades and it is quite a remarkable story. I was enthralled when I heard that the director was going to make this a trilogy. This first part will be hard to beat. Most definitely recommended. One of the year's best pictures.

Poor knowledge about Mongolian history, Mongolian customs and Genghis Khan himself. I don't believe people like it so much. All the Chinese people and Mongolian Chinese around me are disappointed in this movie.

We need more realistic and truthful movies like this one and less of the general Hollywood crap.

Really glad I went to see this film. The cinematography was worth the price of admission. Like "Atanarjuat the Fast Runner" (Inuit movie), you get to see how people have made a living in harsh climates. You also see how violent and cruel that life can be. Thought the 2nd half of the movie jumped from scene to scene with big gaps. Like someone stepped on the accelerator. After the movie "300", have seen a lifetime of gory, digital blood already.

A timeless tale, beautifully filmed, and spun in a way that grabs your attention, from start to finish. An epic film, well acted and well directed, with spectacular realistic battle scenes.

Excellent foreign film. The actors all had excellent training and played their roles well. Personalized the man who was the Leader of the largest empire ever known. May have left a some viewers a bit short with the jump from young man to final battle but was excellent nonetheless.

I didn't like it at all. The movie was exceedingly long and boring during most times. Wasting a lot of time with useless dialogues that didn't add anything to the story. The story itself felt a bit broken at times, as if they had a whole scene removed. There are nice landscapes, some good footage, few action scenes, and music that makes the movie worth to watch. But I wouldn't recommend it. Didn't do for me as anything in particular. Wasn't a good romance movie, wasn't a good biography, wasn't a good action movie... wasn't a good anything :( 4/10.

Even though I'm glad I saw this before Batman, I was awed. Breath-taking panoramas, excellent fight scenes, awesome sound (really), a timeless love story with twists & turns that only real life could produce, you don't even notice the sub-titles the acting is sooo good. I really thought I was there back in time riding horseback with the wind in my hair amongst to the Mongols. I went to this movies based on the reviews and geez did I get my money's worth! Best movie next to Batman, Iron Man this year, GO SEE IT!!!

This movie is a masterpiece of cinematography. I recommend it to anyone interested in these kind of films. I'm very unfamiliar with Mongol history but I was blown away at how difficult Gengis Khan childhood and how well he treated his own men. It's a bit long but I prefer it that way to complete the story-line. I'm pleased to hear this is the first of many to come.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] Meet Genghis who has lives to spare - during this movie he escapes from captivity when having a wooden noose around his neck (he does this twice - as a child and then as an adult), recovers from an arrow wound, his wife rescues him out of Chinese slavery... All this is decorated by wonderful scenery and comical dialogue. At one point he tells his bride how she will not be able to withstand his amorous approaches, in some scenes with his warrior brothers there is simple grunting. There is little explanation as to how he rose to power and consolidated the various Mongol tribes. At one point in the movie he is cavorting on the steppes with his wife and children and in the next scene he is the leader of a vast band of warriors. The transitions in this movie are baffling. Perhaps the director thought all the horseback riding and endless walking would suffice as an explanation. There is even less elucidation on Genghis the battlefield tactician - the battle scenes in the movie are reminiscent of the style of 'Lord of the Rings' In real life Genghis had several wives and concubines - so much for the comic romance.

The story line was boring, very boring. But the costumes, the acting, the effects - made this movie a gem. I'm glad to see that Russian cinematogrophers are finally making decent films.

It's brilliant! I loved it. There were a couple of moments where I was closing my eyes (during the battles) since I don't like seeing blood, but I'm deeply impressed, even the next day, as I'm writing this.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] Undoubtedly one of the best films I have seen in my many decades of film watching. Though the history is not entirely accurate (i.e. this film would have you believe that Genghis Khan was monogamous) and since films of this genre all too often accentuate the positive attributes of conquerors, setting aside the unpleasant truth of just how ruthless they needed to be to attain the rank they achieved, the film story as told is still very well done, if only because the themes running through it are timeless. Tough guys want to trample over you and members of your family life. Your rightful inheritance is stolen from you. You resist, and for your resistance, you are beaten down. You are sold into slavery. Still you persevere, and in the end, as the future Genghis Khan character does in this film, you triumph despite formidable odds because you know yourself, and you inspire people by being fair to them. In many ways, the storyline is not a new one. And it may be simple. Yet somehow the historical backdrop against which it is told elevates this film into a potent reminder of what strength we humans are made, particularly when that strength is combined with that of others into a common societal desire. While watching this film it made me feel proud to be a human if only for the fact of how far we have come as a species, and the fact that we are the by-product of thousands of generations that survived the most difficult of challenges. Genghis Khan's story certainly reminded me of this fact.

Excellent! I thought the trailer was unappetising but I was pleasantly surprised by the movie. Although there are some holes in the story line, you will not be bored, it is well played, and the overall entertainment value is more than good. The fight scenes are not over the top or too bloody. This movie is supposed to be part of a trilogy; I can't wait for the next one! It goes to prove that one doesn't need a whole bunch of glitter and special effects to make a great movie. A must see!

I liked it, but it is not for everyone. If you don't like swords and blood, skip this one... surprise, surprise, a story about The Great Khan has blood in it! It is better than your average "swords and blood" movie, and is well worth seeing.

If you like history movies you have to see this film. You can't compare this to american films. This movie takes you back in time. Very powerful.

The story told is a prequel to the warrior and conquerer that most would associate the historical figure of Ghenghis Khan. Nevertheless, the breathtaking scenery of the Mongolian steppes alone is worth the price of admission +. The plot and characters were well developed. The battle scenes were a bit to high tech for me with blood flying everywhere in slow motion. It would have been better to use some of the more traditional methods to bring out the savagery of the times... All in all," a great movie "..

Thank you for a masterpiece that had nothing to do with standard Hollywood plots that I'm so sick of. The language was beautiful and so was the director's and cast's ability to capture the feel of those times, places and people. Wonderful! Go see it now!

Entertainment and education well served together. While not entirely historically accurate it provides a terrific insight into the life of that time. Definitely not Hollywood and definitely worth seeing.

Not quite historically accurate according to the sources which I am familiar with. First time I've heard of Temujin in a Chinese prison--doubt that ever happenned. Also, no mention of his famous generals such as Jebe Noyon and Subetai who were crucial to his rise and conquests. Great photography, great acting, great story, and one of the best movies I've ever seen. Plus it was inspiring as it showed how one person could succeed despite the odds stacked against him. The Mongols never had a written language of their own and didn't write their history until much later. So, most of what we thought we knew about these people was written by the people they conquered: Persians, Chinese, Russians etc. So, of course they have always been the bloodthirsty savages and bad guys of history! Truth of the matter is that they were no more bloodthristy than other characters in history whom we praise such as: Julius Caesar (read about his conquest of Gaul), Napoleon (his disruption of Europe), many of the kings and Emperors throughout history.

Excellent cinematography, well-developed story line. Subtitles with the original language (Mongolian) added to the effectiveness of the film. The best movie we've seen in months and months!

From the human interest standpoint, I was pleasantly surprised. The bloody battles are handled pretty well without much gore. Photography is outstanding. Excellent, beautiful cast.

Finally no hollywood intervention!!! Best documentary based movie since... dunno. Cant wait for the rest. This is how movies should be made. Minimal CG, beautiful scenery, authentic language (not a mockery of an attempt or english accents for greeks...)just an incredible all round movie. Going to see it again with my parents as well. Well picked actors. Good mix of action with drama and character development. Loved it.

I thought it was going to be all about the conquests and wars of Genghis Khan; about how he build his empire. Wrooong. It was solely about uninteresting events of his life that MAY have led him to become a great leader. You'll learn nothing about Ghengis Khan than you already know, for sure.

Although in a foreign language, Mongol inspired me in many ways. A very well-made movie, obviously high-budget. The costumes were marvelously accurate, and the actors, even the little ones, were professional. I highly recommend this movie.

Overall good cinemetography and it managed to capture many of the defining features of his early life. But why they chose to insert the Chinese prison story into it I don't understand. What's known of the story is already enough, that was just excessive.

Wow, this movie can match Iron Man, an amazing blend of a dramatic storyline and an epic idea, along with a legend that has been tuned to help us understand it, even though it seems so unreal.

I was a little weary going to see this last night, but in the end was pleasantly surprised. This was a good balance of epic saga, personal tale of love and determination and action/war flick. I think we all know these types of films can get bogged down in cliché with predictable turns and ridiculously out of place action sequences, but this film avoided those pitfalls quite well. Also, there are a few places where heads roll Conan style, but it is about Genghis Khan! Better than Braveheart in Mongolia, but close to that kind of thing.
