It's a good movie. I've definitely seen better. You can tell by the movies I've reviewed. The story was good but too slow for my liking. I also thought it could have been a little more funny to lighten up the mood at some parts. It is a comedy afterall.

This is MY opinion this movie is NOT a comedy i didn't laugh one time personally I found a bit depressing and sad the acting was good just the story wasn't.

Ryan Gosling is up there with the future Sir James McAvoy, a legend in the making! His performance here is brilliant. In fact everyone is great in their roles. A good artist "makes the familiar unfamiliar" so we can look at it with fresh eyes. That's exactly what the writer and director accomplish here. The search for love and approval and connecting with family and local community.

The only thing that kept me watching this movie was Ryan's acting. He's amazing... but... the story is so not realistic: a whole TOWN playing along with one family's craziness? Really now! Who paid for the ambulance to come to the house and for the funeral service etc. etc.

There is no doubt that Gosling is a very good actor. With that said... I have heard a lot about the life-size dolls in the news and I wanted to watch the movie out of curiousity. I wasn't shocked but I was a bit surprised to see that an entire town would react the way they did. I couldn't relate to any of the characters and I went into this film with a very open mind. I left with too many questions and feeling less than impressed overall.

Beautifully executed by Gosling. This was hilarious and inspiring at its best, and original at its worst. Regardless of what others say, it was very logical and realistic. You will find yourself laughing hysterically for 90% of the film, but surely, towards the end, you will question whether you have a reason to. The ending was phenomenal. See it.

The movie touches everyone who has lost someone close. Most of us hide these feelings and never deal with tragedy. The main character shows a crazy way to deal with loss. Which turns out to be the best way. I like that this movie did not rely on profanity, or sexuality to bring out the story.

Wow. Ryan Gosling is definitely one f our finest canadian actors. After you see him in movies like half nelson and this and see his honing up some serious skills as an actor you can only guess that it's not long before he gets an oscar. I'm not sure why this movie is listed in comedy. I don't think that was really the intention. Its more if a journey in to the life of the odd character and the fact that the love of everyone around him eventually saves him.

Absolutely brilliant. Ryan Gosling is amazing. I didn't think he could surpass his Half Nelson performance but he did. I highly recommend this film.

Just brilliant. It's such a funny situation, but presented so touchingly that as the characters are forced to see it in a different light, so are you. One of the most original films you will see in a while.

This movie was amazing and thought provoking. It had you almost as one of the people in it and you began to feel the same way they did about Bianca. I didn't know what this movie was going to be like at all but I'm glad I went to see it. I would definitely recommend it.

I expected a lot. Half Nelson was great, and Ryan Gosling is one of my favorites. But this was a mish mash. I had three questions that needed to be cleared up: first - how did he believe her real when he ordered her off of the internet and paid for her with a credit card? He had to of known what he was doing to deliberately order a rubber doll and pay for her - even with a mental illness. Secondly, aren't there regulations in regards to sending someone to the hospital via ambulance and also using health resources to treat a rubber doll? Lastly, Doesn't it seem odd to anyone how fast Lars moves on? Someone who is in mourning doesn't make a move that fast. (Plus what is that girl (the one from the office) thinking? When her kids ask her how she met their dad - "Well, see, Dad was a nut job who should of be committed, but I had such bad self-esteem that when his rubber girlfriend died and we pretended that she was real and had a very expensive funeral for her that included internment, I couldn't resist his strange charms and his odd relationship with his baby blanket that he received from his dead mother." Boo Urns.

I thought this movie was very original and brought so much more than what movies usually bring today. Movies today are filled with violence, swearing, and stupid scenarios. Though, people can claim this movie was stupid, it was overall a feel good movie, you just have to look past the realities. Movies today arent reality. People shouldnt be angry at he fact that everyone treated Lars and the doll so nicely and no one made fun of him because, that wouldnt really happen in real life. Most things in movies these days could really never happen. I think this movie was very well done, and I enjoyed it very much. I laughed and I cried and near the end you almost believed the doll was a real person. I was glad the movie had no swearing and that they didnt make anything sexual. He just genuinely loved the doll and that is a rare thing to see in movies these days. Again, Great movie. I would definitely see it again.

What a sweet movie! I laughed, I cried. If such a community existed, where they care for one another and accept someone who is different: I would move there tomorrow morning. There should be more movies like this one to balance for the violent ones. Actor Ryan Gosling is excellent as always. So real and touching. The rest of the cast is excellent also.

Very poignant and charming: the shadow of mental illness cloaked in whimsy. If you or yours have ever faced a mental health issue you will appreciate the superlative response of the community to Lars' delusional disorder. They rally round in an inspiring display of respect and affection for the lonely young man with such integrity. The film is fascinating in its depiction of externalizing the mental voice that many of us carry in our private lives. Patricia Clarkson is noteworthy as the GP/Psychologist who treats Lars with respect, compassion and wisdom. Her insight is that what we so often label as pathology may be experience that has a deeper purpose that must be respected for it to be resolved. Emily Mortimer is sterling as Lars' concerned sister-in-law. Funny, at times heartwrenching in its quirkiness, this film is a winner.

This movie was amazing. It contained everything you could want from a theatre experience: exceptional acting, a unique plot, meaningful musical scores. Ryan Gosling is so good in this part, generating real emotion towards the doll.

Loved it. Many layered. Compassionate. Wonderfully touching when one considers Lars as a child who had not been touched and is struggling to make a connection. The relationship between the characters was believable. The two brother's insights well worth thinking about. The cast was stellar and Gosling was stupendous!

A ridiculous plot, the character appears to function normally other than his silly delusion, which is unbelievable. Everybody in this town is compassionate, not even one person makes fun of him, again unbelievable. Although well acted, in the end you never connect with these characters.

Some people were laughing hysterically at things I didn't really deem "funny" (he's retarded? Give him a break) so to tell the truth, a lot of the time I was just confused. But whatever, the storyline and the ending are not bad.

What a performance by all actors in the film! Well casted. Loved it. I was worried it would be too silly but the deeper themes of the film and well written comedy thankfully prevented that. If you liked eternal sunshine of a spotless mind you will love it.

I can't imagine pitching this movie to a studio-- "I want to make a movie about an introverted guy who buys a sex doll on the internet and thinks she's real." but I'm glad they did. I was not expecting a sweet charming movie with a great ensemble cast. Ryan Gossling does a fabulous job as the introverted main character and proves he's not just a pretty face. You believe he believes in his plastic girl. Particularly outstanding in the supporting cast are the actresses who play the family doctor and Lars smitten coworker. This is a lovely movie celebrating connection, community and the power of love.

This is a rather unusual drama-comedy and definitely gets high-marks for originality. It could be a parable or metaphor for coping with mental-illness (or addiction) The tone of the movie is very low-key - like a 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' on a strong dose of valium. It does not get high marks for realism - everyone in the community is so accepting of this guy's 'relationship - problem' - one tends to hear loud 'GUFFAWS' during the movie like 'AS if that could happen...'. But maybe that's part of the movie's strength as well. This movie did generate a lot of conversation between my spouse and I - so from that point of view the movie was a tremendous success. The movie is multi-dimensional - bridging topics like mental-illness, therapy, addiction, tolerance... But not all those dimensions work. Maybe at the end of the movie our protagonist will relapse and just order the new improved Bianca - version II with sound effects.
