Good movie overall, but didn't agree with all of Herzog's views...

Let me start by saying that I enjoyed Herzog's "Grizzly Man", as quirky as that film was at times. That said, I found it unfortunate that Herzog was the first to get a film about life in the Antarctic into the cinemas. The documentary practically comes off as a personal home movie with Herzog's, annoying, rude or lame commentary (added for humour I suppose) edited over conversations he has with the residents of McMurdo, who will probably wish they never agreed to be interviewed by this guy after they see it... and there are a couple of scientists I am sure sure, who regretted meeting with him the moment he opened his mouth. Much of the movie made me wonder why Herzog even bothered going there, or making a film, he didn't appear to like the people or place from the start. The ocean and landscape scenery is ok, but often meshed with odd and quicky musical choices. All in all, I really wasn't impressed by anything I saw, and can't even recommend this film even if you see it for free on tv. National Geographic probably has better docs on McMurdo and Antarctica.

A typically low-key Werner Herzog film, with moments of poignancy, humour and beauty. Not for everyone, especially if you want to bring kids - but a very good film nonetheless.
