J'avais lu les critiques avant d'y aller et comme elles étaient pas mal toutes bonnes j'y suis allée et j'ai été déçue. Ce film ressemble beaucoup trop a d'autres du même style sans être aussi bon donc je ne le recommande pas.

Awesome show. Not scary (my friend would disagree since she screamed at one stage!) but it is incredibly tense. The settings within the house and the eariness of how it looks, combined with the strong performances by all makes this one a classic that will survive the years. Nice twist in the story makes you think and it has an awesome ending. Del Toro back to his best in my opinion (I hated Pan's Labyrinth!)

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] This beautiful, Spanish-language thriller, directed by Juan Antonio Bayona, is a welcome delight for people who love scary movies but not the torture-porn antics of today's so-called horror flicks. However, this is much more than just your typical haunted house story. Belen Rueda gives a breathtaking performance as Laura, a woman who returns to the orphanage of her youth to open a home for special needs children, only to encounter terrors unknown surrounding her young son's disappearance. The outcome is heartbreaking yet exquisite in its depiction of human suffering. The atmosphere and mood created in this film is utterly superb. We are transported deep into a world filled with sadness, fear, and indescribable beauty. The camera work, music, sound effects, and lighting really make the picture for what it is... an ultimate creep show. Also, the pacing and direction are excellent, and the film's use of foreshadowing is remarkably strong. There are a few scenes however, that keep you on the edge of your seat, but unable to look away. I actually thought my heart was going to jump into my throat during one particular episode because I was caught off guard. If you enjoy suspenseful, smart, creative movies... this is a sure bet. I highly recommend "The Orphanage" but keep in mind this film is subtitled.

I liked the acting a lot, there was one particular scene that was really powerful. The twist reminded me of the Sixth Sense, and I got vibes from other films as well... some parts of the film didn't quite make sense, but that is true in most thriller/thrillerish films. The movie succeeded in freaking the hell out of me with good suspenseful scenes, but that effect would be ruined after the first viewing, really. I would rent it, not see it in theaters.

It is an excellent movie. Very realistic, it really made me believe! It is one of the scariest movies I have seen with a great twist in the end. It's the type of movie you would keep on watching over and over.

I definitely enjoyed this movie. I went and watched it with a friend that claimed she 'doesn't get scared' when she watches movies. She jumped several times. Very entertaining. Worth watching.

I disagree with those who think a movie has to take off with guns blazing, people dying etc. This was/is a great movie. If you're interpretation of what makes a movie so great is when it starts off with big bangs, lots of explosions, killings etc., then you shouldn't be going to a movie like The Orphanage. Some movies need to build up for suspense, intrigue and a continuing storyline. It doesn't matter what the opinion of some was for this movie when it comes to the others nearby. I was probably nearby at the time and thankfully those do not speak for me. You are entitled to your opinion about the movie itself, just not what others think, I disagree because I thought it was a great movie and thankfully others see it the same way. Suspenseful and very well made and even though I'm not one for sub-titles, once this movie got going, it was AWESOME! Well worth it to let the movie build to the level it di get to.

Played very much with phsyche like a classic hitcock. Very little graphic scenes but great moments of fear. Got tingling sensations several times, i.e. a well thought out movie.

Extremely well done. Even better on the 2nd viewing and I plan on seeing it again this weekend. If you liked 'Pan's Labyrinth' then you'll like 'The Orphanage'. If this young director continues to put out work of this caliber then he has a great future ahead of him and we'll have some great treats to look forward to. This really is a unique film.

I found it to be sort of a copycat of the movie 'The Others' with Nicole Kidman... Not exactly it but lots of resemblances... A story heard and told before, nothing original. Takes a long time to start. People in the movie theater where moving in their chairs, talking... you could tell there was a lack of interests.

A rare horror movie that has real emotional undertones. A couple of great jump-out-of-your seat moments and a scene that sent chills up my spine. Good plot, good acting. Highly recommend it-if you liked 'The Others' you'll love this one.

I am overwhelmed! Great acting, great story and amazing suspense. You are left with the same feeling you had when you first saw The Sixth Sense. A must see!

Definitely one of the best movies made this year! It is beautiful and sad and terrifying and many other things most of today's horror movies lack! Great acting and a captivating story. You will get scared and remind yourself it's only a movie, that is certain. And when it's over, you'll be stuck thinking about it for days... Go see it!

This film seems to borrow bits from Poltergeist, Sixth Sense and The Others, and it pulls it off really well. I wouldn't describe it as a horror film as it's not exactly scary, but it does have a few moments that may startle you. Definitely worth seeing on the big screen.
