Yesterday evening I read a review on this site for the Dark Knight that described the movie in such a way that I almost didn't bother going to see it. I am so glad I did. The review that I read described this movie as lacking in artistic content as well as in philosphical content. Other criticisms lobbied were that the film was lacking in plot and intelligence. These statement got me thinking as to why we choose to see a movie and if there is such a singular purpose to our viewership. I think a "good" movie defies its category and is able to appeal beyond its borders. A really well done art film can keep someone who prefers a great suspense film engaged and interested. It is how well a film is developed (this goes for any art form)that will stand up as an example of excellence. I thought this film contained intelligence, plot, philosophical discussion, and artistic content. I don't think I could have sat through a movie that is 152 minutes if it lacked intelligence and plot. I thought the philosophical discussion was incredible in this film. How could someone not realize that the film is discussing human character and capability. Good versus evil may be a timeless debate but this film discusses it in a way that is so clear that you would be hard pressed not to realize that it is being discussed. The discussion of choice in regards to behaving in ways deemed "good" or "evil" is also an important philosphical discussion taking place in this film. Seeing as the characters and story line are being interpreted by default this film has artistic content. Your reaction to it is your own. So my overall, comment is go see the film. It is worth seeing but if you saw the Jack Nicholson version do realize that performance from Mr. Nicholson is extremely challenging to top. If all my comments seem beside the point to an action film then you should definitely go see it as it is an exciting action movie with lots of excitment (cool toys, exciting fight scenes, and good guys vs bad guys)

This movie is so bad that I had to write a second review. A writer would be hard pressed to come up with a worse ending than the 'Dark Blight'. Or even a worse script for that matter. Pure idocity. It doesn't even make sense! Whipping boy batman because they did away with all the criminals? Psychobatman for the sake of sensationalism. Give me a break!

This movie was AMAZING! Everything just worked together perfectly. And of course the Joker was absolutely brilliant. I loved the pencil trick! This movie is definitely worth seeing again and again.

Batman the dark knight is one of the best action movies ever. The cast gives there best performances epically Heath Ledger as the joker. The movie is what I've been waiting for for a very long time from movies. Its Christian Bale, Gary Oldman and Heath Legder at there finest.

Good effects and plot twists, however the ever present comic book-movie themes of the faultless hero (and his shiny toys) adored by all he knows, and the unrealistic morality of the public as tested by the villain, make the movie more immature than the acting deserves. Also, batman's voice is uber-annoying.

It was wonderful; I've seen it 5 times and I'll see it again. I'm just running out of friends to bring with me. I agree that Batman's voice is annoying, but he does have to disguise it and I guess it's better than talking like Mickey Mouse. I still am unable to figure out why the lights on the motorcycle spin in the opposite direction when he first rolls onto the street from the alley, in front of the Joker. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and can anyone explain this?

This is as good as movies get. I heard so much hype about this film which normally would alter the experience for me in a negative way. That did not happen here. The acting is well above average for a superhero movie, well above average for most movies... period. Too bad Heath won't be around for any sequels.

This isn't just a movie, it's a work of art. This is easily one of the best movies I've ever seen and I've seen it 10 times in the theatre! Amazing how it doesn't lose it's emotional impact even after that many viewings. Don't wait for video, this is a must see in theatres!

People voted this high because of the hype about who is in the movie posthumously. Although I'll admit that the acting by him was phenomenal, I still don't agree that it makes it a 10.

I thought the first one was one of the best movies I've ever seen. This one was just so so. It went on too long and the story line just went on and on as if they should have made two movies, but wanted to tie two stories up in just one. I wondered if Heath Ledger dying prompted them to change the villain over to Two Face.

Slightly on the long side, but Heath Ledger did a fantastic job in his portrayal of the Joker, and that alone for me made this film worth seeing on the big screen.

Short on plot... long on special effects/violence. The movie was misnamed... it should have been called THE JOKER. Batman was a secondary entity to the movie with the vast majority of 'character' and intrigue built around Joker. Good on the big screen, but I thought a rental.

Intense, scary, very well done movie, couldn't go to sleep after I got home. Wouldn't really recommend for children though there were a couple in the theatre. Might be a masterpiece but I haven't seen all of the other Batman movies so won't compare. Definitely memorable, definitely will see again.

Wow... better than I expected. I liked it much more than the first (Batman Begins) Heath Ledger was incredible as the joker, and I think he should get a posthumous oscar for this role.

The only reason I rate it 9 and not 10 is because it's not a masterpiece simply an excellent movie. I think it a great movie that will help us remember Heath Ledger in his prime. Even not Batman fan would enjoy this movie, the side effects are amazing. One thing that bothers me is Batman creepy voice.
