Penelope is afflicted by a family curse that can only be broken when she finds her one true love. Kept hidden away in her family's mansion, she is forced to meet a string of blue-bloods in her parent's futile attempt to marry her off and break the curse. When a willing mate cannot be found, a mischievous tabloid reporter hires a young man to pose as a prospective suitor in hopes of snapping a photo of the mysterious Penelope. But Max, a lonely gambler, is drawn to Penelope. Wanting to protect her, he disappears, leaving the reporter in the lurch. Now, fed up by this latest betrayal and determined to live life on her own terms, Penelope breaks free from her family and goes out into the world in search of adventure.
