Passion and dance take the fore in this lush story of legendary duo Juan Carlos Copes and Maria Nieves Rego, tango-swooping audiences into the spirited and romantic heart of Argentina. Copes and Rego met as teenagers and danced the tango together for nearly 50 years -- through fights, torment and separations, followed by reconciliation, adoration and more dancing. Although they hit fame, even in North America for Tango Argentino on Broadway, the pair did eventually split for good. Today, documentarian German Kral takes both of their stories and weaves them into something spectacular: directing young dancers to recreate moments in the couple's lives through immaculate choreography throughout the film, blending seamlessly with archival footage and interviews. Having worked as an assistant director for Wim Wenders, who is an executive producer here, Kral expertly crafts a dizzying and dance-filled feast for the eyes and the heart.
