24-year old Michigan resident and former U.S. Army PFC Maire Kent lost her battle to cardiac sarcoma a rare cancer of the heart. Her dying wish, which stemmed from the childrens' book that she learned to read from as a child, "Paddle to the Sea", was that her ashes would go into a wooden sailboat handcrafted by blind carpenter George Wurtzel. Along with Maire's remains would be placed photos of others who lost the battle to cancer.
