A good day to die of boredom. The latest installment to the aging franchise suffers from a distinct lack of anything interesting. It's a weak plot, but that hasn't hurt a good many action movies. Indeed the original Die Hard wasn't any more complex. The problem with this film isn't the recipe but the mixture of ingredients. The balance is out of whack. The one-liners come at inappropriate moments but there are other points in the drudging plot where any relief would be welcome. It's run out of ideas and become cliche. But maybe it's a set up for MacClean Junior.

Found it boring and was checking my watch to see when it would be over. Sure there were actions scenes but they seemed lifeless and predictable. Did not feel like a Die Hard movie as Bruce Willis' character seemed like more of an afterthought. Shame to think the series might go out with such a whimper.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.]
While the original "Die Hard" was a smart action movie with a realistic, everyday hero; "A Good Day To Die Hard" is a ridiculous action film where explosions, car crashes and broken windows have replaced such trivial things as intelligence and plausibility. Most action films take their leads and throw them around pretty roughly and it's true that most action stars would have quit or die halfway through if the movies they starred in were truly realistic but "A Good Day To Die Hard" takes this idea to a whole new level. Characters get into car crashes where vehicles smash through concrete walls, flip over numerous times, go flying through the air or collide with numerous vehicles and never get even a single scratch on them. It's not like we're given any explanations for this either, it's not like "John McClane" is seen pushing away an airbag after surviving the crash that demolished his truck; he just dusts himself off and runs to the next vehicle to continue the car chase. People jump through glass windows and fall several stories onto hard surfaces like it's nothing and as the indestructible characters manage to evade one certain death after another, you start being entertained not because you're tense about who is going to make it and how, but by the sheer stupidity of it all. The movie is also filled with plot holes and there are multiple sequences that start falling apart once you start applying simple logic to them. There's a scene for instance, where while "Jack" is trying to pick a lock only for his father to arrive with the keys to the door. We don't get an explanation for how "John" got those specific keys to this specific vehicle; we're just expected to go with it. We're also expected to believe that there's a magic wand in Russia that eliminates radiation just by waving it around in a sequence that feels really idiotic. Logic is only one of the problems in the film. The villains are very bland and because the director knows this, he gives them distinct quirks instead of personalities so we can recognize who they were once they are gunned down (we get the dancing guy, the strong one with the tattoos, the evil politician guy and sure they've all got names but you won't be able to remember them) There are a couple of unexpected twists here and there but those raise a lot of questions when they are brought up (apparently it is affordable for the villain to hire a hitman who is able to follow his target everywhere he goes... and I mean EVERYWHERE) The action sequences are impressive, but some are shot and edited very poorly (an scene where "John" and "Jack" need to escape from "the dancing guy" for example) and it makes it difficult to understand what's going on. The movie keeps movie quickly throughout and many of the problems only come apparent once the movie has stopped and your brain can start processing what just happened but there are so many logical errors that they're impossible to ignore. The special effects and stunts are well done, but what do they mean in a stupid that doesn't hold up in the end? You certainly won't be bored in "A Good Day to Die Hard" and there are a lot of sequences that are fun but not only is it easily the worst chapter in the series, it's not a very good action film on its own. (Theatrical version on the big screen, March 19, 2013)

A typical fun Bruce Willis flick with the typical jokes & shoot em up. The final scene is very entertaining. Not a thinker but it is Bruce Willis at his usual best. If you want simple entertainment this is worth the money. I wish the actual USSR scenes were filmed in Moscow not Budapest.

This is trash from Willis Corp. It's just another of his trashy sequels. The story is witless and boring. Too much violence and explosions. [...] Avoid like the plague...

Things explode. Then some things crash into each other. Then some more things explode. The end.

Lots of actions, thrill, suspense, chasing & crashing many cars.

It's a typical Die Hard movie. Exactly what you'd expect. Bruce Willis was not too bad...

Cheesy special effects flick. Car chases, explosions and blowing everyone's brains out. Oops, sorry I just gave away the whole storyline.

Beautiful movie, it is like a spring breeze on a winter day. The sound effects provided an atmosphere of pure cinematic action. Raw. Exciting. Intense. Everything a Die Hard fan could ever hope for. I have been a fan of the series since I was 12 years old, and even now it manages to amaze me. Magnificent it is better than a magicians magics trick. It is like a fish in the desert that has feasted on asparagus roots under the summer sun.

No plot? No chemistry? No storyline? Are you kissing me? This is Bruce Willis movie... why people have those expectations for one of his movies blows me away... Got what I wanted. Blast'em, shoot'em up action!

GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD. It delivers all the adrenaline rush. This one never lets you up, with plenty of unexpected surprises that I enjoyed in the Die Hard series. True keeper for me indeed. :-):-):-):-):-)$$$

This movie was a huge disappointment! Especially when you consider that the last installment of the series: Live Free Or Die Hard was so good. That movie was intelligent, suspenseful and action packed with a lot of great humour of course. This Die Hard absolutely had none of those things. The story was stupid, there was no suspense and even the action sucked. Fell asleep twice. Don't waste your money on this.

One of his best yet. Haven't enjoyed a good movie in a while and I did when I watched this... not being biased either.

As long as you don't go in expecting much, you will find it alright. Lots of action, but unrealistic and predictable. But that's what you would expect in these kind of movies =)
| 6/10 | dan@ - 2 reviews 3.21.2013 - age: 26-35 |
Bruce Willis and J'ai Courtney are entertaining, this is a welcome addition in the series to me. Usually the story in a movie matters to me but usually it is a terrorist who wants money. Die Hard is about John Maclean being a smart ass and being a hero plain and simple.

Amazing movie... a must see! I loved the action and the fire power. Story line is deep! You have to have an open mind to appreciate the acting and the talent...

It didn't necessarily feel like the rest of the Die Hard franchise, but it was very enjoyable and thrilling movie. John McClane, even if he is older now and his main goal is to renew his relationship with his son, he is still tough John McClane! Great visual effects, worth seeing in IMAX.

Bruce Willis is of age to play a father of a grown son. Movie delivers the thrilling and action it advertises. Enjoyed the time spent watching this.

I never thought that I would rate a 'Bruce Willis' action movie this bad, but everything was lacking. No good story, lots of action, but no real flow, and the jokes were simply lame.
| 1/10 | stephancanada@ - first review 3.12.2013 - age: 36-49 |
Forgettable, the store is very thin, the villain is not developed like the first movies, the father-son issue takes too much time.
| 4/10 | diabolo@ - 2 reviews 3.12.2013 - age: 36-49 |
I think they blew their budget on the car chase at the beginning of the movie, because the rest of the movie was awful. Whoever directed and wrote for this flick should never be allowed to work in movies again. Gave it a 5 for the car chase alone.
| 5/10 | furdog@ - first review 3.11.2013 - age: 36-49 |

| 9/10 | amazingawesomeangeldevil@ - 3 reviews 3.9.2013 - age: 13-17 |
The plot was a bit fishy but in general, it was a good movie, I was entertained. The action was there, some humorous bits here and there, it's just like the good old Die Hard movies. It's a one time run though, I wouldn't pay to go watch this one again.
| 8/10 | blububl@ - 2 reviews 3.8.2013 - age: 18-25 |
Extremely disappointing especially for a popular and decent actor like Bruce Willis. This movie fails to deliver. I do not recommend wasting hard earned cash to see this movie in theaters. It is a waste of time. I sat waiting for the predictable plot to venture somewhere but it never left the starting gate. The Die Hard franchise had died a painful and excruciating death with this last installment. Do yourself a favour and stay away from this sleeper.

I hate to admit but I dozed off for just a second during this movie. The pacing was really odd and too much dialogue at times for the type of movie this is. Cinematographically quite beautiful and I liked that they filmed in various countries but the worst of the Die Hard series yet.

I went to see if all the bad reviews were true, and I have to say it was ok, not great, the son made the movie, too many vehicles getting smashed etc. could do without all that, it got boring, wouldn't recommend it, but it was an ok movie nothing special.
| 6/10 | pamarcher80@ - 5 reviews 3.3.2013 - age: 36-49 |
Not disappointed at all. All actions and explosions with good effects from start to finish. Great chemistry between John McClane and Jack. Can't wait for the next Die Hard.
| 8/10 | redcap1210@ - 32 reviews 3.3.2013 - age: 26-35 |
Good movie, I think it's great to see Bruce Willis in action, even though the way the movie is done, imagination has no limit, the heros can do anything without being injured or seriously harmed. That part was too much, but than it's entertaining and makes you laugh too.
| 7/10 | zoriguy@ - 94 reviews 3.3.2013 - age: 36-49 |
Willis does a terrible impersonation of his younger self. The guy playing his kid can not act at all. Cheesier and less eventful than Die Hard 4. All forced one-liners and no clear villain to hate just a random group of dumb thugs and a crazy old guy. Worst Die Hard yet. It has finally gotten tired and Willis is officially too old to be believable. Felt like an expendables spinoff. Anyone who loved the intense action and physicality of the last 4 will be disappointed by this. All guns and explosions, literally not a single fight scene.

A complete and utter failure. Zero chemistry between John and Junior. Rubbish stunt sequences with too many close ups. A baffling circumstance and seriously stupid locations-- I mean, Chernobyl?!! Did the writer lose a bet?!! Were the tax credits that huge? And come on!! RADIOACTIVITY that you can spray the equivalent of air freshener to dissipate?!! Totally insulting to the viewer... are we really to believe John McClane has no idea what his son does for a living? I like the format of the first four films where John stumbles into the action that follows--why change it when it works? Skip it.

I'm so sad that I rated it a 6... I went in wanting a lot, so I lowered my expectations and STILL left scratching my head... It was a Bruce Willis action movie, which is good- but it wasn't Die Hard. There was no Jon McClain. I won't go into to much detail to spoil but he had no care for other people like a hero cop would. I mean common Jon McClain would be beaten within an inch of his life and not shed a tear unless someone was harmed- he was a hero. In this movie I saw NONE of that... I grew up loving the series- hell I had a lot of fun with DH4, and ignored all bad reviews- but 5... I had fun because of the company I was with.

Enjoyed the first two Die Hard films. Bruce Willis is relegated to almost a supporting role, the movie is slow at times and the ending was absolutely horrible.

Die Hard franchise is known for action with decent storyline. There was no story line, couple of surprises that's it. The kid was horrible, and the movie looked like a low budget movie with decent action. Nothing new though. Not as good as the previous one.

The story is forced, the jokes are not funny. I was a fan of the Die Hard movies but this one is a disappointment. Wait to see it at your home!
| 3/10 | arymb@ - 55 reviews 3.1.2013 - age: 36-49 |
It's Bruce Willis, so have expectations but we want to be surprised, we are wondering if he re-invented himself or if he is doing more of the same as a father. He didn't write the script but he read it. It's a nice wink to the past with better special effects but it is very similar to what we have already seen him do. Go see it if you are nostalgic or if you need to see a lot of explosions.

Cannot wait for Die Hard 6. The special effects alone was worth the price of admission. You go into these movies knowing they'll be fun whatever the story line is. I was definitely entertained for 2 hours.
