Begin Again is advertised as a romantic comedy but it really isn't. I'd call it a music drama that happens to have some comedic moments. The plot, about a chance meeting in NYC between a jaded record company owner and a recently dumped singer/songwriter does provide both Knightley and Ruffalo their best parts to date, as well as some clever insights into the music biz. While most of the music is not really my cup of tea, it, like the film and its characters, does have soul and as a result makes the most out of the rather formulaic personal and professional redemption template. An insightful and enjoyable film despite its many predictable elements. Although sadly, I find it hard to see this film connecting with the younger crowd, seeing as how they actually like the vapid crap which passes for music these days and probably couldn't even name the artist who sings Luck Be A Lady Tonight. But that's ok cause look girls there's Adam Levine!!!
