The problem with Hollywood tossing out bad, cheap, shameless 3D action films, is that when they eventually get it right, nobody goes to see it. DREDD is a film that manages to utilize the 3D medium to tremendously cool effect, enhanced by the film's retro drug slo-mo which causes the brain to function as if time were slowing down. So there are some awesome slow mo bullet through cheek moments which work great in 3D. Admittedly, I was kinda disappointed in some of the action scenes, not the high octane body count I was expecting. More of set em up shoot em down which grows tiresome after a while. Great, hard pumping soundtrack is a plus, as are Karl Urban as DREDD, who speaks only in monosyllabic grunts and Lena Headley as the deranged MA MA. Violent and never boring, but a let down in terms of action. I think Expendables 2 offed more enemies in the opening scene then DERDD does for the duration.
