Entourage may be the first film I've seen in a while that is in desperate need of an asterix. For this feature length addition to the popular TV show truly needs two seperate scores. One for fans of the series and one for everyone else. I was an avid fan of the show, especially early on when the novelty of seeing real life celebs hobnobbing and poking fun at themselves was still fresh. I will forever die of laughter recalling James Woods' ranting and raving about his premiere tickets or the weird stylings of Gary Busey, but towards the end, the whole thing started to wear a little thin. So it comes as no surprise then that much of this film falls into the "wearing thin" category. Much like the show, Jeremy Piven's super agent (now studio head) Ari Gold and Kevin Dillon's black sheep brother Johnny Chase, provide much of the comedic enjoyment. Piven especially is a tour-de-force, but even that is nothing Entourage fans haven't seen before. Throw in heavy doses of hot mamacitas, profanity screamed into cell phones and a boat load of celebrity cameos and it's pretty much business as usual. Now while this may be music to the ears of fans, most everyone else is bound to be rather unimpressed. Though, in all fairness, I truly don't know why anyone other than series fans would flock to see this one anyway. In fact, if you don't know what Johnny Chase's nickname is then you probably won't enjoy yourself and will just end up unfairly trashing the film. So what's the verdict all things considered? An average, moderately entertaining 6 for the uninitiated, but a 7 for Entourage fans.
