Heaven Is for Real

As an atheist I went into this with an open mind. Based purely on the script and acting, the movie was really nothing and will be in the $5 bin at Walmart in no time. The only redeeming quality or reason it exists is because a very cute little 4 year old says he went to heaven, met Jesus, his great grandfather and his sister that died before she was born. A sister if I recall correctly died shortly before she was supposed to be born yet the parents did not know her sex. They bought a pink dress for her, but didn’t know she was going to be a girl. Hummm. I wonder if this had been an unattractive adult, would it get the same attention. This child is 4 years old, has a father who is a pastor and mother who is a choir leader, meaning their lives are very much entwined with the church. A Christian church. If he had been raised in a Jewish household with a Rabbi as a father and made to go to synagogue once, twice a week, would his dream or imagination been any different? Would he have seen Moses? While I appreciate this movie will reinforce a Christian’s faith, to believe the child really did go to heaven not only contradicts the bible (he didn’t die on the operating table), but it suggests the Jewish, the Buddhists, the Muslims, native Indians etc. are all wrong. This movie is good if you’re a Christian, bad if you prefer nonfiction.
