Despite the fact that the original Horrible Bosses was one of the funnier films I'd seen in recent years, even I didn't think there was any need for this sequel. The original was a fresh idea executed with gusto by a dream cast of supporting players, highlighted by the dynamic trio of Bateman, Day and Sudeikis, whose improvisational wizardry was pure comedic gold. This sequel maintains most of its improvisational charm thanks to the skills of the returning trio, who really are just fantastic at this sort of thing, as well as Spacey, Aniston and Foxx, who return for brief cameos. Chris Pine is also dynamite as the unhinged rich kid who becomes entangled in the plot. Yet for all the effort put forth by a game cast, the end result is nothing that justifies this film's existence and feels like just another hastily conceived cash grab playing off of the good will generated by the part 1. Midly amusing and good for a few laughs but nowhere near as funny as its predecessor.
