This is quite a shock for it is not the usual type of movies Spike Lee used to provide his fans. I can describe Old Boy as a hybrid between Hitchcock’s, Tarantino’s and Bruce Lee's movies. For those who liked No Country for Old Men, Pulp Fiction, V for Vendetta, the Kill Bill series, Django Unchained, Bruce Lee’s movies, add to it a touch of Psycho and you're good to go. You might even give a 9 or 10 to this movie. On the other hand, if implausible Asian combats and plot, excessive blood and violence are not your cup of tea, this movie would deserve a 5 or lower. If you are among those who can appreciate the artistic effort behind the camera (long takes, interesting camera plays, unusual scenario, special effects, etc), you might rate it a 6, 7 or 8 depending on your taste for gory movies. In short, this movie will not make viewers unanimity.
