Yet another super-hero effort where the plot is so all over the place that the film becomes almost incomprehensible as a result. I challenge any viewer to fully comprehend what the hell is going on with this latest X-Men chapter. There's this all powerful, indestructible God, who as it turns out isn't all powerful or indestructible. There's mutants who were older good guys in other X-Men films who are younger bad guys in this one. I for one got a headache trying to figure out the timelines and who's on who's side and who was capable of killing who by what means? Much like the previous Days of Future Past, Fassbender as Magneto and Evan Peters as Quicksilver have all the best moments. But where DOFP had a well crafted narrative at its center, Apocalypse has an empty hole, unsuccessfully filled with CGI in an attempt to keep audiences from noticing. It doesn't work.

However, I do understand your criticism of the indestructible, god-like villain who turns out to be not so indestructible after all. I address this in my own review. For comic fans, the fact that Jean was able to annihilate Apocalypse would come as no surprise - she is, in fact, a far more powerful, god-like being. But I don't think that the film establishes this well enough so that the full extent of her power seems to come out of the blue. At least, it is poorly foreshadowed, though there is some small amount of foreshadowing. For non-comic readers, the fact that Jean was able to handily dispatch the villain was probably something of a surprise.
