    Young Adult

Charlize Theron continues her futile exercise of trying to make herself ugly in this downbeat, cynical tale about a queen of high school that's approaching forty, who travels back to her loser hometown in an attempt to break up her high school bo's marriage, despite the fact that he just had a baby. If that sounds to you like the recipe for a good time then you might enjoy Young Adult more than I did. Theron, with her dark eyeliner and permanent scowl is the only redeeming thing about this one. She almost transforms a nothing film into something watchable. She's in every scene and even with that angry scowl, you don't wanna look anywhere else. It is only Patton Oswalt as her nerdy, crippled ex-classmate that provides anything resembling support. But even their combined efforts cant sell screenwriter Diablo Cody's cold, uninteresting, self pity party in search of a movie.
