In the 1930s, migrant workers from across the state took a stand against the power structure of California apple farms, hoping to get better working conditions. In a move organized by their Party leader, the ultimately tragic Jim Nolan, one group's strike would have a ripple effect on the labor movement, becoming larger than any one team of workers as they found themselves 'in dubious battle' against the landowners who oppressed them.
