The film chronicles in majestic fashion the epic battle between Rome and Carthage in the Second Punic War. Its protagonist is eponymous Cabiria, a Roman woman sold into slavery in Carthage, where she is befriended by Fluvius Axilla, a Roman spy, and Maciste, his slave a Herculean figure soon to become a stock hero of Italy's musclebound historical epics.
